State Senator Bert Johnson | Board Member

Bert Johnson was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He attended U of D Jesuit and U of D-Mercy. A current resident of Highland Park, he is in his second term as a State Senator, representing the 2nd District, which includes Highland Park, Hamtramck, northeast Detroit, Harper Woods and all five Grosse Pointe Communities.

Prior to being elected to the Senate, Bert served two terms as a State Representative, replacing his term-limited former boss, Bill McConico, whom he served as Chief of Staff for five years.

Two of Bert’s signature issues are education reform and regional mass transit and he has worked extensively on creating smart, common-sense consumer protections and encouraging economic development through creative incentives in tax policy.

He is a member of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, the Mt. Pavan #2 Prince Hall Lodge, and the Highland Park Men’s Forum and Optimist’s Club.
